Until when can I use the IESS insurance if I am unemployed?

The unemployment insurance offered by the Ecuadorian Social Security Institute (IESS) is aimed at members who have ceased their contributions after a dismissal. East insurance lasts for two months from the day of the cessation of contributions and maintains the benefits for illness and maternity.

This period can be extended by means of a request from the 61st day of unemployment. According to information on the IESS page, The procedure can be carried out within 45 days after the dismissal (up to the 106th day of unemployment) and has a maximum duration of five months.

The member can receive during this period up to 70% of the average salary received in the last twelve months.

The insurance period may end earlier if the member registers an entry notice with a dependency relationship, or due to fraudulent acts or the death of the member.

What are the conditions to access Unemployment Insurance?

Only members who have had their last six consecutive contributions in a dependency relationship with their employer, in addition to a total of 24 non-simultaneous contributions, will be able to access this insurance.

The reason for unemployment must not be a voluntary quit or unpaid work from home. Neither will members of the peasant insurance and retired people. (I)
