To avoid assault in the north of Guayaquil, a 64-year-old man crashed his car into a post

Galo Herrera, a 64-year-old man, was seriously injured after suffering an apparent robbery attempt at 04:00 this Tuesday, March 8, at the Lotes con Servicio La Alegría cooperative, in the north of Guayaquil.

According to preliminary versions, to avoid being assaulted, the driver would have hit his vehicle against an electric lighting pole, in block 1583.

As a result of the crash, the front part of the car was destroyed and the pole leaned towards the street.

Neighbors of the place said they heard detonations presumably from a firearm. After the collision with the post, a person got out of the car and left the site, while Herrera was injured.

Relatives of the man said that he was taken to the Abel Gilbert hospital, in the suburb, where due to the seriousness of his condition they intubated him. Apparently, they reported, the man would have been shot in the head.

Police uniforms went to the scene to do the required tests and determine how the incident occurred.

A close friend of the driver mentioned that this would be the second time that Herrera has suffered an attempted robbery in the same sector, which is close to where he lives.

Two months ago they would have also tried to rob him, commented the relative, who pointed out that the street of block 1583 is dark, that the lights that are there are not useful.

The 64-year-old man is dedicated to the transport service and usually leaves at dawn since he has regular clients whom he transports early.

Residents of the Lotes con Servicio La Alegría cooperative were secretive about the situation, but asked for more police patrols. (I)
