Armed attacks do not let up on sidewalks and homes in the south of Guayaquil; caused eight deaths and five injuries

The music and laughter that could be heard in an alley in Las Malvinas, in the Esteros district, in the south of Guayaquil, turned into cries of terror and calls for help on the night of this Sunday, March 6, when several assassins They got out of two vehicles and fired rifles at a family that was drinking next to a high-end car and bathing in a pool.

Five men and two women were shot dead and two more people are hospitalized. But it was not the only case. Four hours later, in the Casitas del Guasmo cooperative, two armed men fired 22 shots at a house, injuring two minors and a 46-year-old man who were in the room.

In addition, a man identified as Kevin José Villa was also shot on Sunday night, on 25 de Julio Avenue.

These cases raise the number of violent deaths in Zone 8 (Guayaquil, Durán and Samborondón) to 241, triple the 79 cases recorded last year to date.

Most of these crimes respond to settling scores and fights for territory for the sale of drugs, according to the Police.

In the first case, Colonel Fausto Miño, head of the Esteros district, mentioned that five men and two women died. He also clarified that no money, weapons or drugs were found in the car, but several deceased did have records of drug trafficking. The police explained that after the attack the corner house belonging to one of the victims was raided.

“We raided the house and at the time of evacuating people, a girl tried to remove more than 4,000 dollars in bundles of 20 bills in a suitcase. We found other evidence that became part of the chain of custody for the investigations”, Mino pointed out.

The chief added that the family victim of the attack bought the corner house six months ago and that since then they had had several reports of parties in the area and even scandals in a nearby park.

These were complaints filed by the neighbors, who commented that the new owners used to live in Guasmo and that after buying the property they completely fenced it off and even installed an electric fence. However, they had no cameras. Several gunshot wounds and blood stains were left on the front of the house.

The deceased were identified as Alberto Miguel Mejía Segovia, alias Prechi, who records arrests in 2016 and 2018 for drugs; Alexis Elvis Lavayen Segovia, who was arrested in 2018 and 2019 for drugs and illicit association.

They also include Bryan Gabriel Rodríguez Lavayen; Justin David Rodríguez Lavayen, who was arrested for robbery in 2018; Henry Leandro Delgado Segovia; Anggie Elisa Moreira Banchón and Emely Kassandra Márquez Vega.

The injured are Bryan FS and Angely RC, who has a gunshot wound to the forehead and is in critical condition.

The agents investigate if one of the victims is related to a police officer, since a credential from the institution was found among his belongings.

In addition, it is investigated if this multiple murder is related to another crime that occurred days ago in the south of the city.

Meanwhile, in the attack by hit men in Guasmo, two minors were wounded by bullets. They are two brothers, 4 and 5 years old, and a 46-year-old man, who were hit by bullets after they shot at their home.

It happened in the Casitas del Guasmo cooperative, at 02:20, when the family was apparently gathered in the living room of the house.

At that time, armed subjects arrived in a vehicle and opened fire.

On the facade, in the metal door and in the window were the bullet holes that hit the minors and an adult who was next to them. The three were taken to the Guasmo hospital.

Captain Stalin Fagra, police chief of the Siete Lagos circuit, explained that the 4-year-old boy was shot in the abdomen and that the doctors are trying to stabilize him to transfer him to the Francisco de Ycaza Bustamante hospital.

His 5-year-old brother is in stable condition; he was grazed by a bullet in the ribs and has already been discharged. The adult received a wound to the hand. He doesn’t have a record.

Criminalistics agents raised 22 ballistic signs at the scene. Police are investigating what motivated this attack.
