The United States considers important the decision of a number of oil companies to leave Russia in connection with the events in Ukraine. At the same time, changes in the market will come at a cost, John Kerry, the US President’s special envoy for climate change, said at the CERAWeek international energy conference in Houston, USA.
“I believe that the decision of some of the largest oil and gas companies to leave Russia is important and will have a great impact. [на рынок]” Kerry said.
According to him, the current fluctuations in the energy market are the price for the restrictive measures introduced against Russia in connection with the situation in Ukraine.
“In my opinion, it is clear that we must do exactly what President Biden and our allies are doing now – to resist. This may have a price, and we see that the energy market is now experiencing turbulence, ”Kerry said, quoted by RIA Novosti.
Earlier, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, calling for tougher sanctions against Russia, acknowledged the impossibility of an emergency embargo on Russian oil and gas. German Chancellor Olaf Scholz also announced that Germany intends to continue to receive energy resources from Russia, since it is impossible to find a replacement for them “overnight”.
