On the afternoon of January 5, José Andrés Coello had finished his working day in the Municipality of El Triunfo. He was dating his wife, who is pregnant. He had not traveled more than a block from the Municipal Palace when he was intercepted by gunmen. One was on a motorcycle and another was the gunman.
It was about 5:30 p.m. Coello, who works as trustee of the Municipality, was shot several times. The first passed through his neck. “Since my spouse was next to me, I got out of the car and ran out and they shot me in the back. They shot me in the arm, in the column”, recalls Coello.
His partner witnessed the attack. He was left lying in a pool of blood on the cobblestones of a street in El Triunfo. Serious injuries kept him hospitalized for days. As a result of the shots he has been left in a wheelchair. “The spine shot has me in a wheelchair,” he says.
33 years old and a lawyer by profession, Coello decided this weekend to expose details of his case in a video that has gone viral, since he considers that he has not acted fairly because two involved are with alternative measures.
It refers to two men who apparently recorded the attack with a cell phone, as alleged proof that the attack had been committed.
Coello maintains that two people were flagrantly detained on the day of the event and that they filmed the video. “They were in charge of making sure and giving the news that he was dead,” says Coello, who questions the actions of the judge in charge of the case because he replaced preventive detention with periodic presentation of the two subjects.
The legal attorney affirms that there is evidence of conversations involving these people. “When they grab them, they take away their phones and check their cell phones and record the conversations between these people where they say: ‘confirm, confirm, did they kill that toad?’ They followed me to the polyclinic, on his cell phone they found images of my vehicle, ”he says.
According to the municipal official, the judge, at the hearing to replace the measures requested by those involved, considered that they were honorable persons and replaced them with preventive detention, taking into account that the victim was alive.
Within this case, two other people are involved: the motorcyclist and the gunman, who were identified by the Police during the chase.
Coello believes that his attack is related to a land conflict, of land allocations in the Municipality of El Triunfo. “As an attorney I had to sign legal reports on land allocations, apparently it was a mafia business, from Los Choneros who handled this, I did not agree with signing for signing until once the mayor asked me to verify well who It was the people,” he says.
The lawyer maintains that there were apparently anomalies, with many folders, repetition of names.
Coello seeks that by disclosing his case, the judge’s actions are reviewed and he is dismissed. He expresses that he is going to write to the Judicial Council for this action.
