A man was injured in a shooting inside the Luis Vargas Torres University, located in the western area of the city of Esmeraldas, on the morning of this Monday, March 7.
The person affected was a private bodyguard of the rector Girard Vernaza Arroyo. According to witnesses, four subjects aboard two motorcycles would have entered at 10:00 through the La Fontana citadel, which adjoins the Nuevos Horizontes university campus.

Minutes before the attack, the guard left the rectory’s office and walked about 200 meters to one of the University’s dining rooms.
In that place, the man was sitting ready to eat breakfast when the shooting occurred. The guard received two bullet wounds, who would also have fired the firearm he was carrying.
The wounded man is in stable condition, it was reported.
Meanwhile, the attackers fled through one of the entrances to the Colinas del Sol citadel.
According to teachers and administrative staff, the assailants fired firearms to evade arrest while fleeing.
A vehicle parked in one of the academic units was also hit by a bullet in the front of the bumper.
Police officers collected approximately 25 ballistic evidence and videos from the closed circuit cameras of the upper center and ECU-911.
The investigative process lasted until after 12:00, since some bullets were lodged in walls and metal tubes, detailed Rommel Villacís, chief of the northern police circuit.
