Muhsin Bayrak, chairman of the board of directors of the Turkish construction company AB Grup Holding, has expressed interest in buying the London football club Chelsea, The Guardian reports.
Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich put the club up for sale this week, and Hansjörg Wyss, a Swiss billionaire known for his support of progressive ideas, was among the most likely potential buyers.
Bayrak confirmed to the publication that he had sent his proposal to the Russian businessman and was waiting for a response. According to The Guardian, up to ten interested parties can apply for the purchase of Chelsea.
So, in his social networks, the Irish mixed martial arts fighter Connor McGregor put up an offer to buy the club. He offered Abramovich £1.5bn for Chelsea.
Earlier it was reported that Abramovich wants up to £4bn for the club, but financial experts say he is unlikely to be able to sell it for more than £2bn.
According to the publication, the Russian businessman wants to leave Chelsea in safe hands and hopes that his successor will not cause political controversy in the UK. Based on this, we can assume that the buyer is unlikely to be from China or Saudi Arabia.
The proposed deal could be the largest in the history of European football. However, it may not take place if London imposes the promised sanctions on Roman Abramovich, as it has already done on other wealthy Russians.
