The Amsterdam Hermitage (a museum of Russian art), which collected its collection together with the famous museum of the same name in St. Petersburg, said it was cutting ties with Russia, Reuters reported.
“Through our carefully crafted relationship… we had access to one of the world’s most famous art collections to draw on in addition to our exhibitions,” the museum said in a statement.
Also, representatives of the Dutch Hermitage stated that they tried to maintain a neutral position, but Russia’s special operation in Ukraine “means that neutrality is no longer possible.”
The leadership and members of the supervisory board of the Amsterdam Hermitage added that they had decided to end the thirty-year cooperation between the two museums, but hope that “someday ties will be restored if changes come in Russia.”
Recall that earlier the Bavarian State Opera decided to end cooperation with opera singer Anna Netrebko and Russian conductor Valery Gergiev. Gergiev was also fired from his post as chief conductor of the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra. He has held this post since 2015. The contract with him was calculated until 2025.
