Ukraine and Russia have reached an understanding on the joint provision of humanitarian corridors for the evacuation of civilians with a temporary ceasefire. This was stated by adviser to the head of the office of the President of Ukraine Mikhail Podolyak.
This decision was reached following the results of the second round of talks between Russia and Ukraine, held today.
“The parties have reached an understanding on the joint provision of humanitarian corridors for the evacuation of the civilian population, as well as for the delivery of medicines and food to the places of the most fierce fighting, with the possibility, I emphasize, of a temporary ceasefire for the period when the evacuation will be carried out in the sectors where it is carried out” Podolyak says.
At the same time, Podolyak emphasizes that the second round of negotiations did not bring the results that the Ukrainian delegation had hoped for, noting that the negotiations would be continued in the near future. “The only thing I can say is that we discussed the humanitarian aspect in sufficient detail,” he said. “A lot of cities are now surrounded, there is a dramatic situation with food, medicines, and the evacuation of the civilian population.”
Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced his readiness to sit down at the negotiating table with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin so that peace would be established in Ukraine.
