US President Joe Biden said that the adoption by the UN General Assembly of a resolution on Ukraine demonstrates the isolation of Russian President Vladimir Putin, TASS reports.
“I pay tribute to the UN member countries for hosting this historic session. Today’s vote exposes Putin’s isolation. It also holds Belarus responsible for its unacceptable participation in this war,” the American leader stressed. His statement was circulated by the White House.
Recall, the UN General Assembly on Wednesday at a special session adopted a resolution condemning the military operation of the Russian Federation in Ukraine. The document was supported by representatives of 141 countries, 5 voted against (Russia, Belarus, North Korea, Syria and Eritrea), 35 abstained, including China and Iran. The resolution also notes the need to increase the readiness of the deterrence forces and demands that Russia immediately cease hostilities.
Recall, on February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin made an emergency appeal to the Russians and announced a special military operation in the Donbass. In his speech, he stated that “circumstances require decisive action from Russia” and stressed that “Russia will not allow Ukraine to have nuclear weapons.” In response to Russia’s actions, Western countries (USA, Canada, European Union, Great Britain, Japan) announced new, tougher sanctions against the Russian Federation, including financial and economic ones.
