Former Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad expressed admiration for the resilience of Ukrainians and Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky on Twitter.
“Great people of Ukraine. President Zelensky. Your noble and almost unparalleled resistance has exposed the Satanic plans of the enemies of mankind. I am sure that the great nation of Iran supports you and admires your heroic perseverance,” he was quoted as saying by BBC News.
Recall that Iran was among the 35 countries that abstained from voting for the UN General Assembly resolution condemning Russia. Mahmoud Ahmadinejad headed the Islamic Republic of Iran from August 3, 2005 to August 3, 2013.
On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin made an emergency appeal to the Russians and announced a special military operation in the Donbass. In his speech, he stated that “circumstances require decisive action from Russia” and stressed that “Russia will not allow Ukraine to have nuclear weapons.” In response to Russia’s actions, Western countries (USA, Canada, European Union, Great Britain, Japan) announced new, tougher sanctions against the Russian Federation, including financial and economic ones.
