US nuclear command and control systems are now “better protected than ever before,” said Admiral Charles Richard, head of the US Strategic Command, at a hearing in the US House of Representatives.
Thus, he commented on the question of possible actions of the military department in connection with the order of Russian President Vladimir Putin on the transfer of nuclear deterrence forces to a special mode of combat duty. “I am satisfied with the current alignment of my forces. I did not recommend any changes,” Richard said.
He added that “that’s all he can say during the public hearing” and promised in the closed hearing “to provide further details”.
Recall that on Sunday, Putin ordered the containment forces to be transferred to a special mode of combat duty in response to “aggressive statements” by senior officials of leading NATO countries.
On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin made an emergency appeal to the Russians and announced a special military operation in the Donbass. In his speech, he stated that “circumstances require decisive action from Russia” and stressed that “Russia will not allow Ukraine to have nuclear weapons.”
In response to Russia’s actions, Western countries (USA, Canada, European Union, Great Britain, Japan) announced new, tougher sanctions against the Russian Federation, including financial and economic ones.
