Some Russian banks have suspended the issuance of loans under the state mortgage program at 7% per annum for new buildings, RBC reports citing representatives of real estate companies. This decision is associated with the expectation of an increase in rates under the state program.

The real estate company “Etazhi” told the agency that only three of the 18 banks with which it works, including Sberbank, did not stop issuing mortgages. At the same time, they issue preferential mortgages only on previously approved applications, the bank does not accept new ones, the realtors specified.

The company suggested that the issuance was suspended due to the expectation of a revision of the main parameters of the state mortgage program “in terms of increasing rates to 12-13%.” According to realtors, this possibility is now being discussed by the authorities and the banking community. Also, plans to change rates under the state program were confirmed to the agency by sources in three large banks, while the exact figures were not called.

Recall that earlier Sberbank announced an increase from March 1, rates on major mortgage programs immediately by 7.3%, to 18.6% per annum.
