So far, several hundred Ukrainians are registered in Lithuania, but this number can grow unpredictably. It is reported by Delfi with reference to the Lithuanian authorities.
“We do not yet see a large flow of people in Lithuania, but we are ready to accept it,” Prime Minister Ingrida Simonyte said.
According to Interior Minister Agne Bilotaite, several hundred Ukrainians are now registered in the country.
The minister added that despite the fact that there is no influx of military refugees yet, the situation can change at any moment. “No one can say that at some point the situation will not switch to a completely different mode, and that we will have a lot of people,” the minister said.
Bilotaite indicated that the country would accept up to 2,000 military refugees from Ukraine who are in Moldova, and offered Lithuanian assistance in their resettlement. Earlier it was reported that Lithuania is ready to accept 10,000 refugees from Ukraine, but other scenarios are also being considered.
On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a special military operation to “demilitarize and denazify” Ukraine. After that, sanctions began to be imposed on Russia, a decision was made to close the airspace for Russian aircraft, etc.
In turn, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky invited the Russian side to sit down at the negotiating table. The first round took place yesterday. Negotiations will continue in the coming days.
