The Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) evacuated most of the staff of the monitoring mission from the territory of Ukraine. Monitors remaining in Donetsk and Luhansk are awaiting evacuation through Russian territory, according to a daily report on the organization’s website.
It is also reported that the monitoring teams of the mission in Kharkiv and Kherson remain in hiding due to hostilities. They will be evacuated from the country at a safe time for this. The head of the mission, Yashar Halit Cevik, remains in Kyiv to oversee the evacuation of the remaining personnel.
As stated in the report, the evacuation was carried out in accordance with the decision taken on February 25.
On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin made an emergency appeal to the Russians and announced a special military operation in the Donbass. In his speech, he stated that “circumstances require decisive action from Russia” and stressed that “Russia will not allow Ukraine to have nuclear weapons.”
In response to Russia’s actions, Western countries (USA, Canada, European Union, Great Britain, Japan) announced new, tougher sanctions against the Russian Federation, including financial and economic ones.
