“Metro 2022”. Russian newspaper refers to a famous book and writes what is really happening in Ukraine

The post-apocalyptic novel “Metro 2033” and its sequels tell the story of people who survived the nuclear war and live in the Moscow metro 20 years after it ended. The first part of the series, published in 2005, became a bestseller – over 3 million copies were sold worldwide. A popular series of computer games was also created on the basis of “Metro”.

GÅ‚uchowski himself sees the present tragedy as similar to the situations he described in his books. “This is happening in the Kiev and Kharkiv subways. I never thought it could become reality. Tragic,” he wrote on Friday, February 25 on Twitter.

The Russian Novaya Gazeta boldly writes what is really happening in Ukraine

The cover announces the most important material of this issue, included in the “No Comments” section. The photographs speak for themselves – for some Ukrainians, who today seek refuge in the basement – tightly packed, wrapped in blankets, soothing their little children and pets. On the page opposite – the inhabitants of Belgrade in 1999, as well as Moscow and London in the early 1940s, who took refuge in cellars and the subway from the war.

Later in the issue, they also posted a special on the third day. It describes, inter alia, a gymnasium with local residents crowding in its cellars. In front of the facility, they hung a banner with a handwritten appeal: “There is a school here, and there are children and quiet people! Russian soldiers, do not shoot!”.

The Russian war against Ukraine continues. There is information about houses destroyed, wounded and killed. Needs are increasing hour by hour. That is why Gazeta.pl joins forces with the Polish Center for International Aid (PCPM) Foundation to support humanitarian aid for Ukrainians and Ukrainians. Anyone can join the fundraiser by making a deposit through or on the website. More information in the article:
