Between 70% and 80%, with an upward trend, was hotel occupancy on the first day of the holiday on the Peninsula, according to data provided by the Santa Elena Provincial Chamber of Tourism. Given the massive influx of tourists who arrived at the peninsular resorts, there was an expectation of reaching their maximum capacity.
The resorts of Salinas, Ballenita, Montañita, Ayangue and Olón were the ones that registered the highest number of bathers despite the varied weather -between sunny, cloudy and drizzle- that the Peninsula has registered in recent hours.

Although the national Emergency Operations Committee (COE) ordered that there be no restrictions during the carnival holiday, which began on Saturday, February 26 and will end on Tuesday, March 1, the local COE of Santa Elena did adopt measures to counteract COVID-19 infections.
Among the provisions in force for this holiday is the schedule from 06:00 to 18:00 on the beaches of Salinas and La Libertad; while in Santa Elena there are no time limits to be on the beach, but the lifeguards are from 09:00 to 18:00.
In the three cantons, the sale and consumption of alcoholic beverages on the beach is prohibited.
On Saturday night, the downtown area of Montañita was full of visitors, most of whom did not wear a mask. In the cocktail street, security measures were applied, such as the installation of cameras.
In this commune, the sale of carnival foam is not allowed. In this place the regulation ordinance has been socialized, while the controls have been maintained since Friday night, said the municipal commissioner, Carlos García.
Activities for this Monday
The singer Nacho will perform at the Festival del Cerro, which will take place from 6:00 p.m. this Monday at the El Tablazo viewpoint in Santa Elena.
