Russian President Vladimir Putin yesterday ordered a halt to the army’s demilitarization operation in Ukraine, pending negotiations, but Kyiv refused them, and the advance of the main forces continued. This was stated by the Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov.
“Since, in fact, the Ukrainian side refused to negotiate, the advance of the main Russian forces resumed this afternoon in accordance with the plan for the operation,” Peskov said, quoted by RIA Novosti.
Aleksey Arestovich, adviser to the head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, in a commentary to the Ukrainian edition of Strana, confirmed that Ukraine refused to negotiate with Russia.
“Ukraine refused to negotiate. Because the conditions that the Russian side transmitted through intermediaries do not satisfy us. It was an attempt to force us to surrender. We gave them a signal that the terms of a possible peace treaty are possible on the terms of Kyiv, and not Moscow, ”said Alexei Arestovich.
Arestovich warns that today there will be fighting in Ukraine and in Kyiv in particular. However, in his opinion, they would have happened anyway, even if Ukraine had not rejected Russia’s proposals for negotiations.
“We will negotiate on the terms that we put forward, not them,” said the adviser to the head of the President’s Office.
