VGTRK, Channel One and Ostankino announced their withdrawal from the European Broadcasting Union (EBU). This is stated in the statement of the broadcasters, reports TASS.

This reaction followed as a response to Russia’s exclusion from participation in the Eurovision Song Contest 2022, which the broadcasters regarded as “an inappropriate political sacrifice at a music forum that has always emphasized its non-political status.”

On February 25, the EBU decided that Russia will not be represented in the Eurovision Song Contest 2022 in Turin.

“Unfortunately, the EBU has turned into a club whose members are in unequal conditions. And we consider it impossible for ourselves to remain in it further,” the authors of the statement summed up.

Recall that on February 24, Putin announced the launch of a special operation in Ukraine with the aim of “demilitarization and denazification” of the country. In response, Western sanctions followed.
