The United States is ready to support Ukraine if the latter decides on a neutral status. This was announced by Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman, quoted by Kommersant.
“We will support the decisions that Ukraine will make for itself,” says a State Department spokesman. “From the very beginning of this crisis, we said that we would not do anything with Ukraine without Ukraine. We will not do anything with Europe without Europe and with NATO without NATO. So the choice is up to the people of Ukraine. We support the decisions they made.”
Earlier, a representative of the office of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that Kyiv could discuss with Moscow the neutral status of Ukraine, but with a clear package of security guarantees, and Zelensky’s press secretary Sergei Nikiforov said that Zelensky was ready to negotiate a ceasefire. Zelensky himself, on the contrary, called on his compatriots to defend Ukraine with weapons in their hands and denied rumors about his evacuation.
