A teenager who was playing carnival near the Tomebamba River died after slipping from the shore and being dragged a kilometer by the rushing waters. Although he was rescued and attempts were made to revive him, everything was useless. Parents cried for the tragic accident and the authorities asked to be careful and avoid approaching these places.
The event was alerted around 11:30 from ECU911, an entity that immediately dispatched the Fire Department to come and provide assistance.

Non-commissioned officer Franklin Bermeo said that the boy was 16 years old and was studying at the Las Oblatas school; he was with some classmates, apparently playing carnival, he said.
They informed him that the boys were on the shore, at the height of the Broken Bridge, but they do not know if they pushed him in the middle of the game or if he slipped on his own, until he was rescued at the height of Pumapungo Park, on Paseo Tres de Noviembre .
Petty officer Franklin Bermeo mentioned that, as soon as they were able to get him out, they began resuscitation with a process called Basic Life Support and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) for more than ten minutes.

But despite these efforts, everything was impossible, so they left the removal of the body in the hands of the Police and Prosecutor’s Office, until at 1:00 p.m. he was taken to the forensic center to perform the rigorous autopsy.
After this unfortunate event, the officer recommended that the public avoid playing on the banks of the river on this holiday so as not to have more accidents of this type. Especially because with the rains, in the southern zone, the land surrounding these places is slippery and the riverbeds are dangerous. (I)
