After five days adrift, a boat that left Esmeraldas with three fishermen was rescued in Colombia

Narino, COLOMBIA

An Ecuadorian and two Venezuelans who last week left the coast of Esmeraldas to fish were rescued on the night of Wednesday, February 23, after remaining, according to their expressions, five days adrift.

The boat in which they went out to fish had a problem, reported the Colombian Navy, an entity that with its teams rescued the shipwrecked.

An apparent mechanical failure caused the boat to drift and the current took them from the Ecuadorian coast to Colombian waters.

The Colombian assistance occurred almost at midnight last Wednesday, after members of a rapid reaction unit from the Tumaco Coast Guard Station (southern Colombia), who were carrying out security and control operations, spotted the boat.

“Immediately, the rescue operation began that allowed the assistance of the boat named Cheche, 25 nautical miles from Tumaco, and in which two Venezuelans and one Ecuadorian were found,” the Colombian Navy said in a statement.

With signs of dehydration and skin burns, the three crew members were diagnosed by medical personnel from the Colombian Navy, who gave them first aid and who took them to Tumaco.

The foreigners were handed over to Migration Colombia, which carried out the corresponding procedures for their return to the country of origin. (I)
