Report on investigation to the emblematic universities was not approved in the Control Commission

The abstention of the delegates of the Christian Social Party and Pachakutik before the Control Commission prevented, this February 24, the approval of the report on the emblematic universities that warned of irregularities in these educational projects created and executed in the government of former President Rafael Correa.

There were only four votes in favor of the report, which correspond to assembly members Fernando Villavicencio (CN-PSE), Ana Belén Cordero, Marco Troya and Pedro Velasco (BAN). Roberto Leather, Gabriela Molina and Comps Córdova (UNES) spoke against. Bruno Segovia (PK) and María Soledad Diab (PSC) abstained.

$602 million have been invested in Yachay since 2013, reveals a report by the Supervisory Commission on five emblematic universities in the country

After this refusal of approval, the legislators Fernando Villavicencio and Ana Belén Cordero, president and vice president of the table, respectively, came out to condemn the position assumed by the PSC and Pachakutik delegates.

Villavicencio said that what happened in the Control Commission is an act of humiliation for the country and assured that there is a project to seal impunity in this country. The greatest danger, he warned, is to prevent the Oversight Commission from approving these reports and affirmed that after Yachay will come the report of Coca Codo-Sinclair, INA Papers and Petrochina.

He indicated that with the results registered in the commission they are a blow and that he will not submit his investigative work to a triumvirate of conspiracy and that he will not lend himself to being the instrument of persecution. That all the investigation work carried out by the investigation table will be sent to the control bodies such as the Comptroller’s Office and the State Attorney General’s Office.

Assembly member of the Union for Hope (UNES) Pamela Aguirre came out to defend Yachay, as she said that it is a falsehood that there is waste in the universities as discussed in the report prepared by the commission, as she highlighted that there were important achievements with the operation of Yachai.

It is false that the report says that it was a waste and that there are no academic achievements, because that statement undermines the achievements of students and teachers. “We are here to defend the achievements of these students, the hundreds of international awards and recognitions, more than 800 publications and other economic recognitions,” said Aguirre.

The vice president of the Oversight Commission, Ana Belén Cordero, clarified that wanting to hide corruption and investigation is part of the conspiracy in the Assembly and of the need to want given to the country. That correismo, a part of the Christian Social Party and a wing of Pachakutik got together to not make the truth known to the country.

For this reason, he said that in a personal capacity he will present the inspection report to the emblematic universities to the control authorities. (I)
