The United States urgently took up the preparation of a draft resolution in connection with the start of a Russian special operation in Ukraine. This was announced by US Ambassador to the UN Linda Thomas-Greenfield at an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council.
“President Putin delivered a message of war. This is an emergency,” Thomas-Greenfield said, promising to submit a resolution on the issue on February 24. It was supported by representatives of Great Britain, France, Germany and some other countries, Interfax notes.
Britain promised that London and its allies would work out a response to the act of aggression against Ukraine. British Foreign Secretary Liz Truss said she “strongly condemns the horrendous and unprovoked aggression that President Putin has launched against the people of Ukraine.” She added that London and partners are starting to work on developing a response “to this terrible act of aggression.”
It should be noted that explosions are heard on the outskirts of many Ukrainian cities. President Volodymyr Zelensky has decided to introduce martial law.
Recall, on February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin made an emergency appeal to the Russians and announced a special military operation in the Donbass. He stressed that the plans of the Russian Federation “does not include the occupation of Ukrainian territories”, but “the Russian Federation considers it important that all the peoples of Ukraine can use the right of self-determination.” Reacting to the Kremlin’s decision, US President Joe Biden, in a special statement, called Russia’s attack on Ukraine unprovoked and unjustified and promised to hold it to account.
