Older women who regularly clean the house and prepare meals have healthier hearts than those who avoid such work. This is reported by DailyMail with reference to an article in the Journal of the American Heart Association.

California scientists measured the impact of light daily activity on the health of 5.5 thousand older women and found that those who worked at home for 4 hours a day decreased the risk of dying from a heart attack or stroke by almost 62%. This, according to scientists, is due to the fact that light activity helps keep the heart normal.

Early research has already proven that regular exercise, such as brisk walking, is vital for maintaining heart health. However, an article in the Journal of the American Heart Association demonstrates that less labor-intensive activities, such as gardening or even showering, will also help older women stay healthier and potentially live longer.

Cardiovascular disease is one of the leading causes of death for women in the UK – it kills about 24,000 people a year, about 66 people a day. They are also the leading cause of death for women in the US.

Earlier it became known that researchers from Oxford studied heart problems in 400 thousand British people for 12 years and found that eating a large amount of vegetables does not reduce the risk of diseases of this organ.
