The US Treasury published a list of organizations that fell under US sanctions as belonging to the Russian state corporation VEB.
Since the corporation is included in the so-called SDN-list, the restrictions automatically apply to all legal entities in which the person involved in the sanctions lists has a share of 50% or more. As a result, 25 VEB subsidiaries, including VEB-Leasing, Russian Export Center, Roseximbank, Sibuglemet, VEB’s subsidiary banks in Ukraine and Belarus, were sanctioned.
In addition, the football club CSKA, 77.6% of which belongs to VEB, was under sanctions.
The US authorities have given American businesses until March 24 to curtail operations with VEB and its subsidiaries.
According to Interfax, VEB has been under sanctions for a long time, but so far they have been more lenient. However, since 2014, VEB has been effectively cut off from Western capital markets and, unable to refinance its external debt, received subsidies from the federal budget to service it.
