A bust in tribute to the sprinter Álex Quiñónez offered to build Lucía Sosa, mayor of Esmeraldas. The proposal was presented by the municipal authority, after the walk for Peace and Security, in rejection of the murder of the athlete, a fact recorded on Friday the 22nd in Guayaquil.
The proposal for the construction of the bust will be presented in a session of the Municipal Council. They will also ask that a street in Esmeraldas be named after Quiñónez.
The walk for Peace and Security took place from the Folke Anderson stadium to the Nelson Estupiñán civic square, on the afternoon of this Monday 25.
One of the slogans during the walk was “We are walking against the violence that is killing us.”
Edwin Preciado, president of the Esmeraldas Sports Federation (Fedesmeraldas), participated in the event. He said he regretted the murder of Quiñónez, whom he described as “a great prospect of Ecuadorian sports.” (I)
