On the morning of Tuesday, February 22, an initiative was launched between the car rental company Locate and the transport mobile application Uber, it’s about the first fleet of electric vehicles that will provide its service in the cities of Quito and Guayaquil.
This eco-friendly initiative will start today with 25 units available in each city. In this first stage, only drivers who have a qualification gold, platinum and diamond in the Uber application they will be able to apply for the rental of one of these units. The rental value will be $195 weekly which must be paid in advance.
SpencerFriedmanmanager of Uber in Ecuador, pointed out that this first fleet of electric cars, in addition to contributing to the environment, will allow work drivers with higher economic gains.
He also highlighted that Ecuador is the first country in the region that has incorporated this initiative. “This is the first step towards our goal of being a company zero emissions in 2040″he added.
For users, the cost will be the same as it already exists in the application. However, they invited customers to request this service to know the travel experience in an electric vehicle.
According to Friedman, the circulation of these units will mean a reduction of 4,000 tons of CO2 per year.
Sandra Vasconez, manager of Localiza, said that the vehicles of the Kia Soul EV brand have 200 km of autonomy. That is, with a charge they can travel this distance without problems.
In addition, he indicated that the vehicles they can receive the load in the house of the conductors, in approximately six hours. “If they had the need to carry out a load outside their homes, there are 37 charging points in the country, in Quito there are about 22 points that are strategically located in shopping malls, parks, exhibition centers and the entire Kia dealer network,” he added.
The Minister of the Environment, Water and Ecological Transition, Gustavo Manrique, attended the event and congratulated the initiative that the alliance of private companies has had in favor of environmental care. “This demonstrates that not only public policy is needed for environmental changes to exist”, he pointed out.
The director of this State portfolio emphasized that transport is responsible for 21% of greenhouse gas emissions in Ecuador. “Today we can sleep a little easier with these first 50 and then 200 electric vehicles that will be circulating,” he added. (I)
