In the province of El Oro, seven violent deaths were recorded in less than 24 hours. Three of the victims were reported in the Machala canton, three in the El Guabo canton, and one in the Santa Rosa canton.
These latest violent events triggered alerts among the population due to the level of insecurity. Armed subjects acted in the incidents and unloaded bursts against their victims.
At 11:00 on Monday the first case was registered. The Venezuelan Édison Montero Sánchez was murdered in the El Triunfo neighborhood, in the El Guabo canton, by an armed individual when he was riding his bicycle.

Two hours later, Nahim Noboa and his partner were murdered outside a restaurant in Puerto Bolívar. Witnesses reported that the armed subjects were traveling on two motorcycles.
Before 7:00 p.m., José Zapata Pineda and Luis Coello Chanche were killed by armed individuals when they were driving through the Palermo sector, jurisdiction of the El Guabo canton.
While on Vacas Galindo street, between Quito and Filomeno avenues, in the canton of Santa Rosa, Alejandro Jiménez Mosquera, 47, was murdered. The alleged assassins arrived outside his house, where he was selling cebiches.

After 11:30 p.m., Segundo Zambrano Cagua, 51, was shot several times when he was guarding some property in the La Primavera citadel sector, in the north of Machala. He passed away as he was being transferred to a nursing home.
The number of violent deaths in El Oro amounts to 34 so far this year, according to data from the National Police. The city of Machala is one of the cities with the highest number of violent events.
“Violent events are frightening families who are afraid to go out for a walk in the city, businesses are closing early and they must invest in video surveillance systems,” said César Proaño, an expert in security systems and a former police captain. (I)
