Modern Ukraine was entirely created by communist Russia, and this process began almost immediately after the 1917 revolution. This was stated by Russian President Vladimir Putin in his video message to the Russians.
According to him, Vladimir Lenin and his associates did this in a very rude way towards Russia itself – “by separating, tearing away from it part of its own historical territories.”
The country can still be called “Ukraine named after Vladimir Ilyich Lenin,” Putin said.
“He is its author and architect,” the president added.
This is “entirely and completely” confirmed by archival documents, Putin said. “Including tough Leninist directives on the Donbass, which was literally squeezed into Ukraine,” the Russian president added.
And now, according to him, “grateful” descendants in Ukraine “demolished monuments to Lenin.”
“Do you want decommunization? Well, we are quite satisfied with that,” Putin said. But you don’t have to stop half way. We are ready to show what true decommunization means for Ukraine.”
Putin pointed out that Ukraine never had its true statehood. The mistakes of the Bolsheviks in different years led to the collapse of the USSR, the collapse of historical Russia is on their conscience, the president believes. Putin added that the right of the republics to secede from the USSR was a “mine,” since the bacillus of nationalism did not go away during the years of Soviet rule.
Speaking about the situation in the Donbass, Putin stressed that it had taken on a critical, acute character.
Earlier today, the head of state held an extraordinary large meeting of the Security Council, which discussed the issue of recognizing the self-proclaimed DPR and LPR. Putin, after listening to the reports of the participants, said that he would make a decision on Monday.
Earlier, the heads of the DPR and LPR Denis Pushilin and Leonid Pasechnik addressed the Russian leader with a request to recognize the independence of the people’s republics.
Last week, the State Duma adopted and submitted to the Kremlin an appeal to the President of the Russian Federation with a call to recognize the DPR and LPR.
In turn, the first deputy chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, Alexander Kornienko, stressed that the recognition of the people’s republics by the Russian Federation would lead to worse consequences for Ukraine than the recognition of Abkhazia and South Ossetia for Georgia in August 2008 after the military conflict with Georgia.
