Emir Kusturica will become the director of the Theater of the Russian Army and will stage a performance based on the film The Cranes Are Flying

Serbian film director Emir Kusturica accepted the offer of Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu to take the post of chief director of the Central Academic Theater of the Russian Army. This was reported by the press secretary of Shoigu Rossiana Markovskaya.

According to Markovskaya, when offering the position, Shoigu reminded those present of his long-standing friendship with Kusturica and noted his outstanding talent and important role in preserving the traditions of Russian culture. The director thanked the Minister of Defense for his trust and said that it was a great honor for him.

Kusturica also shared his creative plans. In his new post, he plans to transfer the plot of the Soviet drama The Cranes Are Flying, his own film Life is a Miracle, and other iconic films to the stage of the Theater of the Russian Army.

Emir Kusturica is a cult Yugoslav and Serbian film director and actor, winner of many prizes at prestigious film festivals in Europe, including two Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival. He is known to the general public for such films as “Black Cat, White Cat”, “Arizona Dream” and “Maradona”.
