The administration of US President Joe Biden discussed with Kiev the possible departure of Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky from the capital in the event of a Russian invasion. This, citing two sources, is reported by NBC News correspondent Richard Engel in his Twitter.
According to him, some officials from the Biden administration discussed Zelensky’s departure with the Ukrainian authorities.
Earlier, we recall, Volodymyr Zelensky said that his family remains with him in Kiev. The head of Ukraine stressed that he, as the president and his wife, as the first lady, should show by example “how families should behave.”
On February 21, Zelensky convened an urgent meeting of the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC). This decision is connected with the statements made at the meeting of the Security Council of the Russian Federation. Prior to that, he held urgent consultations with French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz. The content of these negotiations has not yet been disclosed.
On Monday, the heads of the unrecognized republics of the DPR and LPR, Denis Pushilin and Leonid Pasechnik, appealed to Russian President Vladimir Putin with a request to recognize their independence. The Security Council voted in favor, and the head of state informed French and German colleagues Emmanuel Macron and Olaf Scholz that he intended to sign a decree on recognizing the self-proclaimed LPR and DPR in the near future.
