US officials believe that the situation in Ukraine remains unpredictable and could “deteriorate without warning,” Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said.

According to the press service of the State Department, the head of the diplomatic department admitted that “any military operations of the Russian Federation will severely limit commercial air travel.” According to him, Russian troops “continue to approach the Ukrainian border, which looks like plans to launch an invasion at any moment.”

He also confirmed reports that US diplomats stationed in Ukraine would spend the night in Poland for security reasons. “Our employees will regularly return to continue their diplomatic work in Ukraine and provide emergency consular services,” Blinken said.

On February 21, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed decrees recognizing the independence of the republics of Donbass. He also instructed the Russian military to ensure the maintenance of peace on the territory of the DNR and LNR.
