They rescue the body of the second landslide victim on the Loja-Zamora road

According to witness testimonies, at least three vehicles have fallen into the abyss. Eight people are presumed missing.

Personnel from the Special Operations Group of the National Police reported the location of a second lifeless body in the waters of the Zamora River, next to the Delsitanisagua project dam.

Police and firefighting teams from various cantons have been collaborating since last weekend in tracking down the victims of the landslide registered on the night of Friday 22 at km 39, in the El Retorno sector, on the Loja-Zamora road.

According to witness testimonies, at least three vehicles have fallen into the abyss. Eight people are presumed missing.

On the morning of this Monday, the 25th, the first body of the first victim of the landslide was already located.

GOE teams found the first body on the bank of the Zamora river, from the Delsitanisagua hydroelectric plant. Hours later, the body was identified by relatives at the Zamora Prosecutor’s Office. The victim traveled last Friday from Yantzaza and intended to reach the city of Loja, but his trip was interrupted by the natural event.

The Ministry of Transportation and Public Works indicated that the Loja-Zamora road will be open to vehicular flow from 06:00 to 19:00. For safety reasons, the road will be closed from 7:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.

For now, personnel with heavy machinery are working on cleaning the road. “For users, refrain from driving at night due to the constant presence of heavy rain and thick fog in the area,” suggested the State Portfolio. (I)
