Ecuador is getting ready for the carnival holiday, the second in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic, which will come with more relaxed restrictions, after the national Emergency Operations Committee (COE) decided to eliminate the epidemiological traffic light due to the decrease in infections and the advancement of vaccination.
The increase in capacity and the reopening of the border with Peru are some of the measures that come with the elimination of the traffic light. While the cities have already announced acts for the celebration of the carnival.
The carnival agenda in Guayaquil has musical, cultural and gastronomic activities, which will take place even from Friday, February 25. For that, the Municipal Public Tourism Company has allocated an investment of $167,559.90 with a view to promoting the tourist revival of the city of Buenos Aires.
In any case, for the carnival holiday, the Municipality urged the population to comply with the ordinance on the prohibition of alcoholic beverages in public spaces. In addition, it was recalled that the mandatory use of the mask remains in force.
In Quito, the carnival party will also start on the 25th.
A novelty for this upcoming carnival holiday is a tax reduction of 8% for tourist activities, after the issuance of the executive decree of the president Guillermo Lasso in which he formalized the reduction of value added tax (VAT) from 12% to 8% for those days.
This carnival will be on Monday, February 28 and Tuesday, March 1, and it will be one of the longest holidays in Ecuador, because it joins the previous weekend (February 26 and 27). This day is not recoverable. (I)
