The situation in Donbass, unfortunately, goes to war. Denis Pushilin, the head of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic, stated this on air on the Russia 24 TV channel.
According to him, in the DPR, they tried to keep the situation under control for “as long as possible” and not proceed to evacuation.
“But then there is simply no way to risk the civilian population,” Pushilin said, adding that “at any moment” a large-scale attack on Donetsk could begin.
He also admitted that hundreds of thousands of people could be taken out during these days.
To the question of the host of “Russia 24”: “Is this a war? Is it heading for a full-scale war? Pushilin replied: “Unfortunately, yes.”
Pushilin also said that there would be no evacuation of men from the DPR yet, we are talking about women and children.
Earlier, the media wrote that the residents of Donetsk are trying to leave the city en masse, and traffic jams are observed at all exits from Donetsk. At the same time, it was reported that traffic police officers stop all cars in which there are men and turn them around if they contain citizens of unrecognized republics.
The authorities of the LPR and DPR announced the evacuation of the civilian population to Russia today, against the background of the aggravation of the situation in the conflict zone. Representatives of the self-proclaimed republics claim that we are talking about preparing a full-scale offensive by Ukrainian troops.
In Kiev, however, they deny the possibility of launching an offensive operation.
The day before, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said that Russian troops were preparing to launch an invasion of Ukraine in “the coming days.” According to the secretary of state, Russia can “create a pretext” before the offensive: for example, a “violent event” in Ukraine or “some kind of accusation against the Ukrainian government.”
The Kremlin emphasizes that statements about Russia’s alleged intention to attack Ukraine only intensify the escalation of the Ukrainian crisis.
