President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko said that Europe for the first time in decades was on the verge of a major war, blaming Western politicians for this. The words of the Belarusian leader, spoken after a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, are quoted by the BelTA news agency.

“Today we see in all its glory the irresponsibility and, pardon the bluntness, the stupidity of a number of Western politicians, the behavior of the leaders of neighboring countries that defy logic and reasonable explanation, their downright painful desire to walk along the very edge,” Lukashenka said, emphasizing that Russia and Belarus are ready to withstand the “hybrid war” unleashed against them by Western countries. At the same time, he emphasizes that the West seeks to provoke protests and “undermine” the situation in Belarus, but added that none of the European politicians “consoles himself with the illusion of repeating August 2020”

August 2020 was the month of mass protests that followed the presidential elections in Belarus, the winner of which was Alexander Lukashenko. Lukashenka himself called the elections held and the protests organized from abroad. The suppression of the protests was followed by new EU and US sanctions, and many of the organizers and active participants in the protests were detained or fled abroad.
