The onset of spring is exactly the period of time when you need to pay a little more attention to your car. Pavel Sidorov, director of service for one of the divisions of the Avilon Group, spoke about this in an interview with the PRIME agency.
According to him, among the main points that the owner needs to pay attention to on the eve of the onset of spring is, of course, rust. In winter, it progresses greatly.
Secondly, Sidorov pointed out, it should be remembered that from frost and starts, if it took place on an unheated engine, there may be some leaks in the seals or in the sealing elements. Rust can also cause the same problems – that is, contribute to the occurrence of leaks (loosen somewhere a clamping connection or some kind of stuffing box, due to which technical liquid or technical gas is released).
“For the presence of such problems, the car is inspected as part of routine maintenance, but if the client came to the service center on the eve of spring only for tire fitting, and maintenance is done, conditionally, in the summer or by mileage, and so on, then it is highly advisable to ask experts, in addition to tire fitting, additionally pay attention to technical fluids, possible rust or corrosion,” the expert advises.
That is, he explained, it is necessary to pay a little more attention to external inspection and control of the levels of the state of both fluids and pressure in the car’s systems.
Even after the winter period, the car owner himself should pay attention to the condition of the sealing elements – those that are installed on windows, doors, trunk, hoods, and so on. Often, in winter, these elements are deformed, and if nothing is done, then during a rainstorm in the summer, the car may be flooded.
In addition, Sidorov recommended paying attention to the battery, because in winter, of course, it is subjected to a higher load in terms of the ratio of electrolyte density and work efficiency (for example, it was frosty at first, then a thaw came, and so on). It is easier for the battery in summer, but it is still desirable to prevent possible problems in the next winter season and check the battery charge level and monitor its condition in general, the auto expert explained.
In addition, on the eve of the onset of spring, Sidorov advised car owners to pay special attention to the amount of reagents and total dirt – snow and everything that remains on the brake mechanisms (caliper, floating calipers, rubber bands that cover the brake piston, and so on).
