Russian President Vladimir Putin “personally assured” the leader of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, that there were no territorial issues between the countries, Tokayev said in an interview with the Qazaqstan TV channel.
According to him, Putin assured him that “the territorial issue will never be raised, so there is no reason to worry.” Tokayev stressed that the borders of Russia and Kazakhstan were fixed and the President of the Russian Federation “has demonstrated a firm commitment to these principles.”
The President of Kazakhstan also called Russia a “God-given neighbor” and stated the need to develop cooperation between countries and strengthen political, trade, economic and cultural ties.
As noted, the interview was held in the Kazakh language. At the same time, the interviewer asked the president if his previous interview in Russian was not discrimination against Kazakh-speaking citizens. In response, Tokayev explained that the Russian-language interview “was aimed at conveying to the world community the truth about the events in Kazakhstan.” According to him, it “caused a wide resonance in the foreign media.”
