Starting at 6:30 next Tuesday, February 22, and for much of that day, a group of authorities with the support of volunteers will carry out a minga in various spas in ten Manabi cantons, with a view to disposing of the garbage that exists in these beaches and thus keep them open before the start of the carnival holiday.
Juan Francisco Núñez, governor of Manabí, indicated that he will be starting this minga next Tuesday in the Pedernales canton, in the north of this province, and that in the other coastal cantons political chiefs and lieutenants, police commissioners, municipal personnel will collaborate and volunteers.
“In Manabí we all want our beaches to be clean and that is why we are going to lead by example,” said the governor.
Five Manabi beaches that are among the favorites of tourism seekers
Núñez affirmed that this initiative is given as a result of the first minga that he carried out in recent days in Puerto López, which arose from the need to do more for the beaches.
These mingas will also be held in freshwater spas, such as in Badén de la Poza, in the Ayacucho parish, in the canton of Santa Ana.
For this minga, the territorial authorities were trained so that they know the collection process, which consists of defining the kilometers to be covered, the meeting points, the implementation of materials, coordination with volunteers (20 on each beach), the classification of recycling and transfer of waste that will not be recycled.
Among the spas where the minga will take place are La Chorrera, El Matal, in the north of Manabí; Crucita, in Portoviejo; Los Esteros, Playita Mía, El Murciélago, San Lorenzo and La Botada, in Manta; San José, in Montecristi; Puerto Cayo, in Jipijapa; and Machalilla, next to Puerto López.
“What we seek is to contribute to achieving the objectives, which are part of a global matrix that adds to the conservation of the environment,” said Yeriel Zambrano, zone 4 coordinator of the Ministry of Environment, Water and Ecological Transition.
