President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky believes that Russia is “raising the stakes” by raising the issue of recognizing the self-proclaimed republics of the DPR and LPR. According to him, the recognition of Donbass can be assessed as a unilateral withdrawal from the Minsk agreements.

“Russia puts forward conditions for partners about Ukraine and NATO,” he emphasizes. – And they are somehow negotiating with her, I hope, defending our interests. It is very similar to Transnistria, and in this I did not see any innovative move from the Russian Federation.”

The President of Ukraine also confirmed Kiev’s unwillingness to enter into direct negotiations with the DPR and LPR, which “do not solve anything” and, according to the Ukrainian leader, are a waste of time.

At the same time, Zelensky assesses the Minsk agreements as “drawn up mediocre”, emphasizing that Ukraine is in a deliberately losing position in them.

Two days earlier, the State Duma of the Russian Federation, the State Duma, supported a resolution according to which the draft appeal proposed by the Communist Party faction on the need to recognize the DPR and LPR would be sent directly to Vladimir Putin. Commenting on the initiative of the deputies, the President of the Russian Federation said that he considers it necessary to resolve the conflict in the east of Ukraine, “first of all, based on the not fully realized opportunities for the implementation of the Minsk agreements.”
