The Tumbaco valley registered the highest amount of rainfall in October; liquid levels throughout Quito exceed those of previous years

In Quito they have registered various incidents due to heavy rains. This last weekend the Secretariat of Security reported four floods, three structural collapses, two landslides and the rescue of a person.

As reported Vladimir Arreaga, technician of the National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology (Inamhi), until October 25 the rains already they exceed the total average for this month in previous years.

The Tumbaco valley tops the list, the normal average for all of October in previous years was 107.9 millimeters per square meter and so far they record 181.1 mm, This is equivalent to a 68% increase, which allows determining that it has been the rainiest area in the MDQ.

At north of Quito the normal average for every year, in the month of October, is 113.3 millimeters per square meter. Until October 25 they have a cumulative 165.8 mm, this equates to a 46% rainfall surplus.

At on capital the normal October average was 130.1 milliliters and to date they have received 164.2 milliliters, that is, 26% more than expected.

Arreaga also pointed out that during the following weeks will remain precipitation events with the presence of thunderstorms and hail, mainly in the afternoon and evening. “October is considered the month of start of the rainy season in the inter-Andean alley, this is just beginning ”, he argued.

The Quito Fire Department went to several emergencies in the capital, this Monday reported the collapse of a wall in the Ontaneda Alta sector, in the parish of KNOWLEDGE, belonging to the valley of the Chillos. A house was flooded after the earth fell from a wall due to the rains.

The rainy season would last until May, having a peak in the amount of rainfall in the month of April.

From the Inamhi they reported that the summer season was very irregular because there were enough rains, however, this allowed the number of forest fires to be less.

From this meteorological center they recommended drivers to take precautions for the presence of rain and fog on the tracks. They asked the citizens dress warm because the thermal sensation of these dates will be colder than normal. (I)
