NATO sees no signs of a de-escalation of the situation around Ukraine and will continue to denounce Russia’s “aggressive plans”. This was stated by NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, according to TASS.
“NATO will continue to denounce Russia’s aggressive plans in order to complicate a possible aggression against Ukraine,” he said. “So far, we don’t see any signs of military de-escalation on the ground, but we continue to hope to move along the diplomatic path.”
At the same time, the alliance could not say how many Russian forces are near the border of Ukraine, but claims that they know that their number is allegedly growing.
“It is impossible to say for sure, since they (Russia) are constantly moving troops (on their own territory) back and forth. I just said earlier that there are significantly more than 100,000 soldiers there, but their number has been growing in recent weeks, ”Stoltenberg specified.
Earlier, The Sun, citing US intelligence, reported that Russia allegedly intends to invade Ukraine on February 16 at 3:00 Kyiv time (04:00 Moscow time), inflicting a massive missile attack and using 200,000 troops. In addition, American intelligence suggested that military and government centers in Kiev would first receive air strikes, and then Russian tanks would cross the border.
Prior to this, Bloomberg called the date of the “invasion”. According to sources “familiar with the issue” of the American agency, we are talking about February 15th. Meanwhile, the Politico newspaper reported that US President Joe Biden, during a videoconference with the leaders of allied countries, said that Russia could allegedly attack Ukraine on February 16. The publication also cited its own sources.
The press secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov, commenting on the date of Russia’s “invasion” of Ukraine, ironically suggested that Ukrainians set an alarm clock. At the same time, Peskov noted the high probability that Kiev would decide to use force in the Donbass.
Meanwhile, on February 16, Ukraine celebrates the Day of Unity, on which the President of this country, Volodymyr Zelensky, congratulated the citizens. The holiday was established on a date when the United States expected Russia’s “invasion” of Ukraine.
