Recognition of the independence of the self-proclaimed DPR and LPR by Russia is a bad decision, but not the worst. This opinion was expressed by the former head of the Ministry of Defense of the DPR, Igor Strelkov, according to the OSN.

According to Strelkov, delaying this issue and not introducing forces into the territory of the unrecognized republics only exacerbates the situation.

“But it’s good that this issue is raised at least not after the aggression of Ukraine, but before,” he added.

Strelkov believes that Russia has no “good decisions” left, and this is due to the fact that Moscow clung to the Minsk agreements to the last.

“Through the work of officials in the Kremlin, there are no good decisions left. There are bad ones and very bad ones, Strelkov is sure. – Recognition of the republics is a bad decision, but not the worst. The worst thing is not to recognize and not to enter, waiting for the “partners” to strike, keeping our troops in the impassable mud along the Ukrainian border.”

The ex-head of the DPR Ministry of Defense believes that if Russia recognizes the LPR and the DPR and sends troops to protect the republics, this will be a gift to the “Western partners”, and they, in turn, will announce the beginning of Russian aggression.

“And they will have nothing to object to as long as these are ‘separate regions of Ukraine, its internal affair’,” Strelkov added.

Earlier, we recall, the State Duma adopted a draft appeal to Russian President Vladimir Putin on recognizing the independence of the DPR and LPR. Russian President Vladimir Putin, in turn, said that the parliament is guided by public opinion, and the vast majority of Russians sympathize with the residents of Donbass.

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, with whom the Russian leader had previously held talks, stressed that Russia’s recognition of the LPR and DPR would be a violation of the Minsk agreements and lead to a “political catastrophe.”
