French President Emmanuel Macron called on Russian President Vladimir Putin not to recognize the independence of the LPR and DPR. It is reported by CNN with reference to the representative of the Elysee Palace.
“We remain vigilant and ask [Путина] do not comply with the request of the State Duma, ”the palace said.
Earlier, Vladimir Putin, at a joint press conference with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, said that the State Duma, asking it to recognize the DPR and LPR, was guided by public opinion, and the vast majority of Russians sympathize with the residents of Donbass. At the same time, Scholz said that Russia’s recognition of the LPR and DPR would be a violation of the Minsk agreements and lead to a “political disaster.”
Earlier on Tuesday, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg also indicated that Russia’s possible recognition of the Donbass republics would be contrary to the Minsk agreements.
The State Duma adopted a draft appeal to Russian President Vladimir Putin on recognizing the independence of the DNR and LNR.
