The immunity that is formed upon contact with the Omicron strain of coronavirus cannot guarantee protection against other variants of the infection. This was stated in an interview with radio Sputnik by virologist, doctor of medical sciences, professor at the Gamaleya Center Anatoly Altshtein.
“Now there is evidence that neutralizing antibodies that are produced in response to omicron neutralize previous strains rather poorly,” he said.
Altstein explained that after a more severe illness, there will be more antibodies. He added that it cannot be said that people who have been ill with “omicron” are not at all immune to other variants of the coronavirus.
