Virologist Maxim Shchelenkov spoke about the impact of the neurocovid, which can develop in adults after suffering an omicron, on the human brain. Among the consequences were encephalopathy, delirium and coma.
According to him, in 80% of cases, the neurocovid provokes a cytokine storm, leading to brain damage and pathologies. In a conversation with Vechernyaya Moskva, the doctor explained that we are talking about an inflammatory reaction in the body, when the level of cytokines in the blood rises sharply. As a result, the immune system attacks its own body.
The expert also listed three stages of neurocovid. The first causes loss of smell and taste, the second causes anxiety, sleep disturbances, panic attacks and the development of depression, and the third causes impaired thinking and attention, clouding of consciousness.
“With the new version of the virus, as before, there is a powerful effect on the nervous system,” the virologist warned. In this regard, he urged Russians not to wait for post-covid syndromes or the appearance of neurocovid, but “to be checked for at least two to three months” after recovery.
