The Chinese company Sinovac approved a project that aims to implement a vaccine plant in Ecuador in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Ministry of Public Health (MSP) announced through its website.
Within the framework of the presidential agenda fulfilled last week between China and Ecuador, representatives of the Health portfolio held a meeting with delegates from the pharmaceutical company.

Minister Ximena Garzón and Latin America Operations Manager for Sinovac, Jack Tang, participated in that meeting the previous Friday.
There, according to the MSP, the company presented a tentative schedule of scheduled activities until 2032 and approved the implementation of the project in Ecuador, by the Chinese Government and Sinovac.
Negotiations for this initiative began in 2021.
At the meeting, it was agreed to carry out economic, technical and scientific validation studies to determine where the plant should be installed, what technology should be transferred and the functional legal mechanism with which it will work.
Based on that, it is planned to structure a contract for the operation and construction of the vaccine plant.

A meeting between personnel from the Health portfolio and the Secretary of Public-Private Associations is planned for next week to analyze Sinovac’s proposal.
The project, as a whole, involves conducting clinical trials in the country, technical, scientific and technological strengthening and transfer, and training and knowledge transmission processes. (I)
