Two houses affected by rains in El Carmen

A heavy rain that fell last Monday afternoon in El Carmen, province of Manabí, caused damage to the rear area of ​​a house and the collapse of the enclosure of another property, in two sectors of that town.

The downpour was recorded from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. that day.

Mayra Alcívar, owner of the affected house located in the Evaristo Vergara neighborhood, stated that she could not believe that the house built with her effort had been partially destroyed.

The enclosure gave way with the rain, and this, in turn, with the force of the water and mud, demolished part of a wall of the house. The kitchen and a room were the most affected by the incident.

While Zoraida Casanova, who was the tenant of the affected house, stated that she was miraculously saved, since she was in the room next to the kitchen. She recounted that, just minutes before the damage was registered, she had moved into the living room.

Zoraida lived in the destroyed house with her two teenage children, one 13 years old and the other 15 years old. At the time of the mishap they were in the room. The youngest of her daughters, who was lying down, had a small stone fall on her head, but nothing serious.

Some belongings and the infrastructure of this part of the house were destroyed by the fall of the wall.

Sonia Casanova, another of those affected, stated that the enclosure of her house, located in the Tres Marías neighborhood, also gave way to the heavy downpour.

For its part, the Fire Department reported that in some sections of the lateral passage and Chone Avenue the water rose up to 50 centimeters. Therefore, the passage of vehicles was difficult for several minutes.

Risk Management of the Municipality together with the firefighters were activated to attend to emergencies.

Tania Mendoza, mayor in charge, ordered that Risk Management, Public Works, the Fire Department and other departments be activated for any other emergency and collaborate with those affected. (I)
