From this Tuesday, February 15, the maintenance and validation of the sirens of the Early Warning System (SAT) for Tsunamis and Dams began, indicated the National Risk and Emergency Management Service (SNGRE).
Work will begin in Esmeraldas province, according to an established schedule. This Tuesday, in the San Lorenzo canton.
Sirens will be activated in six coastal provinces prior to the tsunami drill on January 31
Between Wednesday and Friday the maintenance work will be carried out in teams from the Eloy Alfaro canton; and from Friday to Sunday, in the Rioverde canton.
During the work, the operation of each of the tones will be verified, as well as the loudspeaker.
Likewise, communication with the control centers of phase I and II will be evaluated.
The Risk Management Service called on citizens to remain calm during the inspection of the equipment, since the activation of an alarm will not imply an emergency warning. (I)
